Roadmap for Political Education

Political Discourse Cards

In times of social and political crisis, polarization deepens and emotions run high. The REACT political discourse cards were designed to help teachers facilitate respectful, thoughtful conversations around controversial issues—supporting empathy, critical thinking, and democratic values such as equality, solidarity, and freedom.

Based on the REACT model, the game includes six categories aligned with the stages of political education:

  • Emotion

  • Political Knowledge

  • Critical Thinking

  • Position & Perspective-Taking

  • Action for Change

  • Reflection on Discourse Rules

Each card offers prompts to support emotional awareness, knowledge-based discussion, and the ability to listen, respond, and act.

Physical Card Game (for small groups)

A face-to-face version designed for use in teacher training or small class settings. Participants move through the REACT stages using conversation prompts. Includes a category for checking discourse rules and giving feedback.

Digital Version (for whole-class discussion)

An interactive online version ideal for synchronous lessons. A controversial topic is chosen, and the facilitator clicks through the categories. Works with a shared screen or projector. Designed for larger group engagement.
