Roadmap for Political Education

REACT Model

Based on the research findings, we developed the REACT model – a practical and theoretical framework for political education during crisis periods. The model offers a pedagogical sequence of five key stages: Recognize emotions, Enrichment of political knowledge, Analyze critically, Conclude and formulate position, and Take action. For each stage, based on the findings that emerged, we developed a variety of practical approaches suitable for the Israeli reality and the unique challenges of teaching during collective trauma. We created a comprehensive toolbox in Hebrew, including detailed instructions, classroom implementation examples, and support materials developed in light of the findings shared by teachers from the field. The model is designed to provide educators with a flexible framework that can be adapted to various ages, disciplines, and political issues, while maintaining a balance between the emotional and cognitive dimensions of political education

The REACT Model: A Practical Framework for Political Education

The REACT model provides a structured, research-based approach to teaching politics in times of crisis. It was developed from interviews with 48 Israeli educators after October 7 and during the Swords of Iron war.

The model outlines five key stages—Recognize, Enrich, Analyze, Conclude, Take Action—which together form a pedagogical sequence that integrates emotional awareness, political knowledge, critical thinking, civic identity, and active participation.

The visual model below presents these five stages, each associated with a distinct color, to support educators in applying the framework in diverse classroom settings.

REACT is designed as a flexible tool: not a step-by-step manual, but a guide for adapting political education to the complexities of real classrooms
